I really love libraries. They are beautiful and soulful places filled with rich traditions, deep pasts, and emotional histories. They house our knowledge, instruct our future, and catalogue our humanity.

A gathering of old library catalog cards. I rescued from becoming trash. I liked the typography and the subject matters. I hope to incorporate them into future artworks.

Satan by Gustave Doré in Paradise Lost.

I have to say that Satan in Paradise Lost is my favorite character. He’s the classic hero, wily, cunning, devious, a voyager, a warrior, courageous, a leader, bold even in defeat, strong despite tragedy, courageous to the point of folly. He’s Odysseus, he’s Achilles,  he’s Prometheus.

“Lord of the Flies” illustrated by Sam Weber

Which is better - to have laws and agree, or to hunt and kill?

These illustrations are glorious. To anyone who loves literature, or “Lord of the Flies” this is for you. Or if you just like good art. And if you’ve read the book, then you understand the dark undertones, the specific nature of the scenes, the emotional investment in the pieces, and the symbolism that has stretched now from letters on a page to richly colored illustrations. All of this makes it remarkable that Sam Weber has captured so many subtleties of the book and created work that matches the pace so well. Weber’s art is the perfect match to this literary classic.
